From September 18 and 22,Director of Jiangsu University Institute of Pearl S. Buck, Director of School of Foreign Languages Faculty Committee, and Dean of English Department Professor Wu Qinghong, was invited to delivered featured MOOC lectures entitled “The beauty of Chinese life in the works of Pearl S. Buck” and “The beauty of Chinese landscape in the works of Pearl S. Buck”, respectively. Her lectures were shown in the Microview Column of Jiangsu Learning Platform of “Learning Power”. These lectures created a social response in the academic circles of Pearl S. Buck studies and Zhenjiang residents.
Based on her research on Pearl Buck's autobiography My Several Worlds and her essay Beauty of China, Professor Wu elaborates in simple words on Pearl S. Buck’s understanding of China’s beauty and her love and affection for Chinese customs. She highlights the importance and practical significance of Pearl S. Buck studies as well. The MOOC lectures by Wu are both academically enlightening and have been praised by many Chinese Pearl Buck experts.
Professor Wu Qinghong, a senior researcher in Pearl S. Buck studies, has a high reputation in her research field both at home and abroad. He is currently vice president of Zhenjiang Association for Pearl S. Buck Studies. Her invitation to shoot the MOOC lectures and the showing of these lectures on “Learning Power” prove the high recognition of the experts in Pearl S. Buck studies of Wu’s academic achievements and teaching level. It is also a proof on the unremitting efforts that have been made by Jiangsu University scholars in the field of Pearl S. Buck studies and its social promotion. The MOOC production of Wu’s lectures has won a strong support by the Publicity Department of Zhenjiang Municipal Party Committee and Zhenjiang Wenguang Group, as well as the encouragement from the School of Foreign Languages Party Committee and its administrative staff.
