On the afternoon of September 12, Professor Liu Chengfu from the School of Foreign Languages, Nanjing University gave a lecture entitled “Some understandings on China-Africa cooperation” in the Third Lecture Hall of the Conference Center. The lecture was presided over by School of Foreign Languages Deputy Dean & Foreign Languages and Literatures Discipline Leader Professor Su Jianhong. More than 100 teachers and students from the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Liberal Arts and the International Office attended the lecture. Department.
In the one-and-a-half-hour report, Professor Liu introduced the historical background and the contemporary significance of Sino-African cooperation by resorting to his professional knowledge, historical knowledge, geographical knowledge and personal experience. He also dwelled upon the change of his own ideas on Sino-African communication and Africa per se as a foreign language learner and researcher. Professor Liu’s informative lecture not only refreshed everyone's understanding of Africa, but also deepened their understanding of the world, human beings and human civilization, helping both teachers and students to have a deeper understanding of country studies and the foreign languages discipline. After the lecture was over, Professor Liu answered the questions raised by the enthused audience patiently. The interaction between the speaker and the audience was conducted in a lively but harmonious atmosphere.
Professor Liu Chengfu is a second-level professor and doctoral supervisor of the School of Foreign Languages, Nanjing University. He is also the executive vice president of China Africa Studies Association, the vice president of the French Teaching Research Association of China and the president of the Translators Association of Jiangsu. Professor Liu’s lecture has benefited all the faculty and students, bettering their understanding of traditional African culture and the cultural identity of the Africans, as well as arousing the interest of the audience in country studies and studies on Sino-African cultural exchange.
