December 29, Professor He Baonian of Nanjing Forestry University delivered a lecture in J210 to Japanese majors and faculties titled “Kanji in the Japanese language”. Dr. Liu Shoujun of the Japanese Department presided over the lecture.
In his lecture devoted to kanji in the Japanese language, Professor He vividly expounded the classification, pronunciation, writing, role, meaning and learning of the Chinese characters (kanji) based on his research achievements of many years. His lecture is of great help to students scheduled to sit the Professional Ability Examination for Japanese Majors in grasping the tricky, various pronunciations of kanji in the Japanese language. Toward the end of the lecture , Professor He exerted the students to master kanji both by assuming a conscientious attitude and cultivating a good habit of reading aloud. During the interactions with the audience, Professor He answered the questions raised by the enthused Japanese freshmen and sophomores.
Before the lecture talks were held between Professor He and a number of faculties of the Japanese Department on the undergraduate curriculum, Japanese learning, etc. After the lecture talks were again held between Deputy Dean Professor Su Jianhong and Professor He on discipline construction and other issues.
Professor He Baonian is a vice president of Jiangsu branch of the Chinese Association for Japanese Teaching and Research, dean of the Japanese Department, Nanjing Forestry University, won his Ph.D. at Aichi Shukutoku University, and is devoted to Japanese Language and Literature and Japanese Culture. His publications include more than 30 articles in peer-reviewed periodicals both in China and abroad, a monograph titled Studies on the Chinese and Japanese Homonyms,4 monographs some of which he wrote partially, and 4 textbooks.
