November 18-19, the “Symposium on postgraduate English teaching of Jiangsu province” sponsored by Jiangsu Association for Tertiary Education Foreign Language Teaching was held in Soochow University. School of Foreign Languages Deputy Dean Li Chongyue attended the meeting and delivered a keynote speech titled “Constructing the postgraduate English curriculum of Jiangsu University”.
The report made by Deputy Dean Li introduced the experiences of Jiangsu University in constructing the postgraduate English curriculum over the years. His report is divided into four parts, that is “1997-2001: Exam-oriented Education”, “2002-2011: The Reform Effort to Establish the Graded Teaching”, “2012-Present: Cultivating the Academic Capability”, and “Post-2014 Effort to Further Improve the Curriculum”.
In recent years, Jiangsu University has made remarkable achievements in postgraduate English teaching reform. In 2010, the postgraduate English course was ranked among the Excellent Postgraduate Courses of Jiangsu Province; in 2016 the University won a first prize for the Postgraduate Training Model Reform Achievements of Jiangsu Province; in 2016 the University won a second prize of the Chinese Society for Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Award for Graduate Education Achievements. The postgraduate English curriculum of the University won high praise from other colleges and universities in Jiangsu province. These achievements owe a lot to the great importance attached by the University to the postgraduate English curriculum and the conscientious effort that has been made over the years by faculty members of the School of Foreign Languages.
